Cooper's story is slightly unknown prior to our rescuing him. He was dropped off at a vets office in Alabama by a good samaritan who saw him wandering on the side of the road. We also aren't sure how long he may have been out on his own?
Cooper was is in pretty good shape, all things considered, when he was found and was given two weeks to find a new home. And that's where my sister and I stepped in. We just couldn't bare the thought of such a vibrant animal in the prime of his life (he's only 2 years old!) being put down. He has such a lovely personality and would be an absolute joy for any dog lover. He is very laid back and really only aims to please his family.
Cooper is heartworm negative and up to date on shots. He's quite the fun loving creature, although he may have been neglected at some point? He can be slightly timid around some people, and at times he will try to hide from the person/ car of someone who pulls into the driveway - but we've been working to correct this.
One odd thing I've noted about him, is that for being a Labrador Retriever- he doesn't seem too interested in water or retrieving. But it seems that he may be warming up to playing with balls and tug- of- war ;)
Cooper would be a fabulous companion dog, he loves people and would rather be indoors than out. He's housebroken, knows simple commands such as sit, lay, and we're working on stay. He adores other female dogs and will allow them to do just about anything they want to him and he just loves it! He actually hasn't been around any male dogs other than a small Yorkie. He's been around my cat and doesn't seem to feel threatened or really even take any notice to the cat, so far as I can tell he's just fine with other animals.
He also loves, loves, loves car rides!
We love Cooper and want to do our best by him. However, my sister is a full time nursing student, with two cats and a dog of her own and I am caring for a 4 year old Chessie who has CNS Lymphoma. Between the constant chemo and trips to my Vet and my sister's busy schedule, we just cannot justify keeping Copper - although we'd love to! |
