Leroy is a three year old chocolate lab who narrowly escaped with his life - twice. To be sure, that is not a tear of joy spilling from Leroy's eye in his first picture - it is one of pain and anguish. It was the lead picture accompanying Leroys story and the subsequent pictures and his story were just as moving. Animal Control picked up Leroy after he had been hit and dragged by a car. Numerous drag burns to his body and a dislocated hip were the result, but he escaped with his life. Somewhat miraculously, and despite the injury, shelter staff and Vols managed to buoy his spirits upon his arrival and he lovingly responded. Leroy was brought to a kill shelter and he needed rescue and Vetting urgently. Second strike. Time was not on his side - in fragile health, shelter staff and Vols lobbied for rescue. Lining up sponsorship, foster and transport, Leroy became top priority. Due to the outpouring of support, Leroy was rescued and we recently received this update from his foster....

Leroy Brown at peace!

Hello everyone!

I am new at all this, but just wanted to thank you so much for all of your support in getting this poster dog out of the shelter. He is worth it every step of the way. I have attached some pictures of his homecoming. As you can see, he has made himself quite at home, despite his hip. I think he has had the pain for some time. He got a bath and neosporined from head to toe.

This morning I take him to the DVM. She is a vet with a new country business, with a big heart. Hopefully she can take care of Leroy. I will keep you updated.

Again, from my family and Leroy, THANK YOU!!!

Ultimately, Leroy ended up having multiple breaks and the Surgeon advised removing a portion of his femur and creating a new socket for his leg. He will have a somewhat shorter leg, but given the alternative (amputation) we feel certain Leroy is on board!!!

The second and third pictures posted are from his adoring foster - a spectrum of emotions - lest we should ever forget how nearly dogs emotions can and do mirror our own.

Atlanta Lab wants to extend our heartfelt thanks to all those who made Leroy's rescue possible and for the miracle of his life.
