| Ginger is an 8 year old purebred yellow lab. She is a beautiful girl whose owner found himself (for the upteenth time) seated before a Judge; Ginger's future hanging in the balance. The scales of justice swung her way and hope renewed when her guardian angel appearing in the form of a Judge stepped in and changed her life forever. The Judge had grown weary of the life Ginger led at home and took pity on this senior girl. He proceeded to ask the ACO for help in placing Ginger, after being impounded three times - the judge was fed up. (We need more Judges like this!!!) Unfortunately for Ginger, the timing could not have been worse as the local shelter was holding 40+ pitties from a raid. There wasn't a single empty run for her. Complicating matters, she was still considered an owner turn in, despite the circumstances...as the owner released her. Leaving Ginger exactly 24 hours to find rescue. Ginger was posted to the lab forum hoping to fast track her and miraculously it worked! People rallied to her cause and the wheels of rescue begin to turn. She was offered a new home, but it was evident from her description and her pictures that Ginger would require pretty extensive vetting. Ultimately Ginger was best suited to rescue. She was already spayed but suffers from arthritis and due to stress or a secondary issue had begun to gnaw at her front paw incessantly. According to her owner "e;she freaks out during a storm, but he never tried taking her inside - she was always left out in a pen."e;!?! UGH! Bless this devoted, loving girl - she holds no grudges and still has a fabulous temperament and in the ACO's words is "e;VERY laid back and sweet"e;. She pulled and pulled at us - we were assured the ACO could not hold her - even for the night and although Atlanta Lab was not equipped to take her financially or from a foster perspective, we just felt something would come through for her and we would make it work regardless. Rescue works in curious ways -- one of our most dedicated fosters has opened her home to yet another 'special needs' dog. We can't thank her enough. And Ginger? Ginger will never want for anything again, but a soft bed and a loving embrace.
