In the last 2 days, Moon has opened up quite a bit. He is playful, but not rambunctious and is easily calmed and will settle down and lay down quickly. I've had to keep him and my other little one from playing too much because of Moon's neuter sutures. He is very good natured and not aggressive. He follows me around from room to room and likes to sit on the couch next to me, so he attaches to people well. He is house trained . He gets excited easily with food, but he's learned to sit before getting anything and he is learning how to gently take treats. He was good on the leash when we went running and didn't try to veer off from the pack to sniff, chase or anything. But as I learned this morning, he LOVES to run - not really chasing anything in particular though - and acts like that is just the best, most freeing thing he can do. I can't tell yet whether he'll be able to be trained well for being off leash eventually with more training. He is good in letting me put ointment on his sutures and generally is very good. As most labs, he is very affectionate, loving and loves affection and attention. He is a bit lanky and he has this prancing, gazelle-like bouncing way about him which reminds me a bit of greyhound, but I don't know what he's mixed with. His head looks like a Lab with a little Great Dane, but you'd think he'd be much bigger if he was mixed with a Dane. Given his love for running, it may be a greyhound even though his head looks all lab and/or Dane. He's adorable and another little love bug. He probably needs to put on about 10-15 pounds I think.

Generally, I think he'd be good in any household whether with children, other dogs and probably even cats, but that is yet to be determined. He doesn't really chase squirrels although they catch his eye, and he's so easy going and not the least bit aggressive I think he'd more want to play with them than anything else.

Sometimes all the stars align, miracles happen and special dogs are dropped into our laps. In this case, Moon is our miracle and the kindness of others through the process of adoption allowed ALR to finally rescue him. Yes we did we want him, and yes, we begged - and the shelter obliged (not so secretly delighted) hoping in tandem, that a Sunday adoption would yield results. They held him over. So, our sincere thanks and appreciation to all our ALR adopters for whom the rescue of Moon would otherwise not have become a reality. AND, a shout out to the shelter who loved Moon enough to follow their hearts, keep him alive and celebrate his ultimate and timely departure. Lots of labby kisses sent your way!

Now, more on Moon! He's smart, handsome, a serene black beauty, mindful of his manners and thoroughly engaging. The word refined comes to mind. Well socialized, Moon is immediately comfortable with the familiar and has already developed a curiosity for the new world unfolding around him. He likes what he sees! Around every corner, the streets are paved with gold ~ er make that good...intentions. Happily for Moon, those same streets lined with trees, canine companions and grass galore - the vehicle for walks, shared experiences and soon enough the blur of the shelter will be but a distant memory.

Until then, he'll keep reaching for the stars - they've served him well - and hoping for a home of his own. The distinct realization that a new forever family in reach will allow for the rescue of a shelter mate and Voilą - two lives saved in one! The duality of which, Moon's way of paying it forward, is not lost on him in the least. One smart cookie after all!
