Update - pictures can be deceiving, while the emotion behind them is real, this precious pup is a WEE 20 lbs at most and while young, is full grown - she's the tiniest girl we've ever had in the program and when they brought her out to us, we melted. She's no longer scared, holds her own with all our big labs and has a heart triple her size! She has a perpetual smile and the charming stature of a 'pocket pup' - our natural inclination is to literally scoop her up because she loves being held & well, given the size of our labs, because we can! Look at this precious girl. Please look again. The first picture is Heather on her first day in the shelter - clearly the face of a terrified little girl. We see this again and again. BUT, she wasn't picked up as a stray, starving or abused, this sweet Golden/Lab mix is an owner turn in who was unceremoniously dumped at animal control. Why? Just an inconvenience - easily abandoned, an afterthought. No regard for how she would feel, the crippling fear that ensued or her absolute terror of being confined amidst the deafening sounds of nonstop barking and agitation. Now look at her second picture, is that a -- well yes it is, its a smile...Heather grinning back at her caretakers. One in particular. One man who reached out to her, gave her comfort, held her close with the promise of better days to come. Quieted the fear and trembling and brought her out of her shell. Without whom she'd never have made it into our care. Now that we've met her, she reminds us of our favorite childhood Gund - the face of a well loved stuffed animal! She's adorable! We too want to just grab on and hold her tight, never let her go. Our hope is that you will too.
