Pookie is a 3 year old lab mix who was abandoned in the backyard when her owners were foreclosed on. Evidently, Pookie's owners didn't consider her part of the family, clearly viewed her as disposable and treated her as such. Even before their departure, Pookie was routinely neglected, never spayed and had several litters prior. This sweet girl was left hot, hungry & pregnant in the heat of summer with few options. Very thankfully, an outraged neighbor who did local rescue took her in and championed her cause. She solicited support from other neighbors and arranged for transport to us in Atlanta.Pookie was hugely pregnant upon arrival, barely mobile & the very next day gave birth to a litter of 8. All on her own - an old pro. Its sad really, given her age. Pookie is a wonderful mother deserving our utmost admiration - we are touched by her natural loving way. This will be her final litter and Pookie will be spayed as soon as her pups are weaned. We want to give Pookie a life of her own, where she is singularly loved and cared for just as selflessly as the love and devotion she's lavished on her pups .
